Eco Starch Resin™

BiologiQ’s Eco Starch Resin™ (called ESR) is a unique type of thermoplastic resin made with our proprietary process that converts high crystalline starch into a low crystalline (mostly amorphous) plastic. ESR is supplied in pellet form. This thermoplastic material has many properties which are desirable for the manufacture of various products, including films and bags, injection molded parts, blow molded bottles, and thermoformed parts.

Eco Starch Resin is made from annually renewable agricultural resources. Made in Idaho, we use starch that remains after processing potatoes into potato chips and french fries. Globally, 0.4% of the weight of all potatoes grown is turned into starch that is not used for human consumption.

While Eco Starch Resin can be used alone for some applications, it is generally blended with other plastic materials (see BIOBLEND™). Our proprietary process for making ESR with its unique properties allow it to be easily blended with other plastic resins, including both fossil-fuel and bio-based materials.

While extremely stable in normal use, because of its natural, starch-based origin, BiologiQ’s ESR is highly susceptible to biodegradation by enzymatic reactions caused by the introduction of humidity (water) and bacteria or other microorganisms. BiologiQ’s ESR has been tested to EN 13432 and ASTM D-6400 and has received Vincotte’s “OK Compost” certificate #S600 for compostability.
